Mrs. Theiss' Social Studies Class
Classroom procedures:
  1. Come in, fill out planner information, work on anchor activities or read library book until we get started.
  2. Use cooperative learning rules when working in groups.
  3. Clean up before leaving each time.

Classroom Expectations:
  1. Be Ready- Have supplies, homework and classwork ready each day. Five or more pencils:
should be sharpened before classes begin each day and that number should last you the day. Come ready to work. Have a good attitude and be attentive.
  1. Be Respectful - Use manners- common courtesy for classmates and treat adults with respect.
The Golden Rule is always my rule- “Treat others the way you want to be
treated.”
  1. Be Responsible- Assume responsibility for your actions, work, attire, and time. Be neat,
complete work carefully and keep your things organized.

Social Studies Content:
The topic is World Cultures. The TEKS include topics from the following: history, government, citizenship, culture, science, technology, and social skills. We will use class sets of textbooks, but if you would like them for your home please check one out at the front office.

Makeup Work Policy:
Students should get missed assignments from a classmate and follow up with each teacher during advisement. Most of the work we do will be completed in the ISN(Interactive Student Notebook) and should always be completed after an absence. For each day a student is absent, (s)he has the same number of days to complete and submit missed work. If a student fails to turn in make-up work on time or complete it at home, the student may be asked to complete it during advisement, dismissal, etc.

Projects, Tests, etc:
Students will see dates for tests and projects due, listed on the planner board and on my website. ( btheiss08.blogspot.com ) Projects may be done primarily at school, yet require some time at home for completion, other project types are at home projects and others are groups projects where productivity is in direct correlation to the level of group cooperation. Consequently, some students may need to complete these assignments at home in order to meet the due date.

Grades:
There will be a minimum of 9 daily grades, 3 major grades as stated in the district guidelines. Our Hallway policy is -10 points each day late. No late work accepted for homework. If a student should fail a test, the student is allowed to make corrections and will receive a 70.

Discipline:
The Warriors strive to maintain a positive yet efficient learning environment in which student engagement is seen as a proactive preventer of discipline issues. That being said, any issues that arise will be dealt with fairly, immediately, and clearly.
